It was mid June 2008. California had just legalized gay marriage a few months earlier. It became a crazy whirlwind of planning for a wedding, knowing that we had just a small window to pull everything off before it could all possibly be taken away from us. One thing that we knew that we wanted, and could not skimp on, was an amazing photographer to help document the culmination of (our then) 13 years together. The moment we came upon Viera Photographics (they actually were still Dennis Viera Photography back then), we knew right then and there we wanted them to shoot our wedding. Looking through old emails, I came across the very first one we wrote to them. We wrote, “As graphic designers, we must say that we absolutely love and appreciate your photography. Your compositions, lighting, and most importantly, the emotions you are able to capture through your lenses are truly inspiring. We must have gone through hundreds of portfolios online, but the two of you as team, are exactly what we have been looking for to help us capture a day that we and our friends and family have been waiting for. It’s nearly 2 in the morning and we can’t stop clicking away at your photos. That’s how much we love your work!” We weren’t able to book them for our wedding because of scheduling, but we were VERY fortunate enough to have them shoot our “enGAYgement” photos. As a team, Dennis and Jaime worked amazing together. They listened to what kind of photos we were going for, and delivered way beyond our wildest dreams. This having been our first real photo shoot, we were a bit nervous. They made us feel very comfortable in front of the camera. The framed photograph of our favorite shot that’s hung in our bedroom, and the amazing book they put together for us that has a permanent place on our coffee table, are constant reminders of how for one day, those 2 made us feel (and look) like supermodels. We got some amazing shots that day. But more importantly, since that day, we’ve come to consider them as great friends. And along with their adorable son Alex, they have become such amazing supporters and advocates for marriage equality (ask them about the shot of their son in the Donald Duck costume for marriage equality). It was a great pleasure and honor to have been shot by such talents, and anyone looking to have their special day photographed, would be so lucky to have them. We know we were, by having met them that summer 6 years ago. We absolutely LOVE them, and would be the subjects or their lenses again in a heartbeat. Thank you Jaime and Dennis, for an amazing experience, and your undying love and support!
