I will never know what it’s like to have a baby growing inside me for 40 weeks but I’ve experienced the journey secondhand and have a lot of respect for expectant mothers. The changes – to your body, your relationships, your daily routines – are never-ending. There are magical days, and days when there’s not so much magic. Over the weeks and months, a cell grows and grows, and the belly turns into a bump that grows into a bigger bump that’s eventually included in conversations and sometimes even asked to settle an argument or two. As the final chapter of the bump story unfolds, you’re definitely ready for this thing to be out already…but the bump itself is something you know you’re going to miss. I don’t think I’m the best pregnancy photographer in the world but I just can’t resist taking photos of our friends just before they end one, and begin another chapter of their lives. I prefer to focus on the person and how they’re feeling rather than the belly itself. This was a casual and spontaneous shoot; I had 5 frames left on my Pentax 67 and Meg and Joe were meeting us for dinner at a favorite place of ours, Bestawan Pizza in Cardiff, CA. I knew they were feeling good and thought it’d be a great time to bring the camera along and I’m so glad I did.
